What is professional coaching?

The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment.

As your coach, Carolyn honours you as the expert in your life and work.

It is her responsibility to:

  • Discover, clarify, and align with what you want to achieve
  • Encourage your self-reflection and discovery
  • Elicit solutions and strategies generated by you
  • Hold you responsible and accountable

This process helps you dramatically improve your outlook on work and life, while improving your leadership skills and unlocking your potential.

How do I know if working with Carolyn will be right for me?

To determine whether you could benefit from working with Carolyn, start by thinking about what you would expect to accomplish during the sessions. When you are clear on the outcomes you would like to achieve, a coaching partnership can be a useful tool to help you reach those outcomes. However, if you do not exactly know what it is you would like to achieve then the first session would help you get clarity on this. You will receive a helpful questionnaire that will enable you to reflect on the results you want to see in your professional and personal life.

Also, ask yourself whether you are ready to devote the time and the energy to making real changes. If the answer is yes, then coaching may be a beneficial way to grow and develop.

Carolyn offers an obligation-free Discovery Session during which you can chat with her about any questions you may have and see if this would be right for you. To book a 15 minute chat use the form at the bottom of this page.

How is coaching different from other service professions?

Professional coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes and managing personal change. Sometimes it’s helpful to understand coaching by distinguishing it from other personal or organisational support professions. Coaching is not therapy or counselling, and it is different to training or mentoring.

What does a typical session look like?

All sessions are online, so there is no travelling time. Your first session will begin with a chat to assess your current opportunities and challenges, identify priorities for action and establish what you would like your outcomes and results to be.

Between scheduled sessions, you may set yourself specific actions that support the achievement of your goals. Carolyn may also provide additional resources in the form of relevant articles, checklists, assessments or models to support your thinking and actions if this is applicable to your results.

For you to get the most benefit out of the coaching relationship it is best to start with the 8 week programme where you can systematically work through coaching tools and strategies that will lead to the results you want. Ultimately you will learn how to become your own coach and the benefits of this will last for a lifetime.

Each session takes approximately 45 mins to an hour, although the first session may take up to 90 minutes.
